I was part of TechField Day 27 in not-so-sunny San Jose, CA, in March (3/8-3/10). There was a great focus on emerging technologies, in particular CXL. You can read about CXL here.
One of the companies presenting was Men&Mice and their DDI solution. Men&Mice is a smaller company based out of Reykjavik. I was particularly interested in their solution; while I don’t use an Excel sheet for IP management, I’m always interested in a better way to manage DNS, DHCP, and IPAM.
Let’s jump into some details about what it does and how it works.
Men&Mice DDI is a software solution that provides comprehensive management of DNS, DHCP, and IP address allocation. The solution allows administrators to manage and monitor their DDI infrastructure from a single, easy-to-use web interface. Men&Mice DDI is built on a modular architecture that allows it to be easily integrated with other IT systems, making it highly adaptable and flexible to fit any organization’s needs.
DNS Management: Men&Mice DDI offers a highly available and scalable DNS solution that can manage and automate the management of DNS zones and records across multiple platforms. The platform also offers advanced features like DNSSEC and Anycast support, which ensure the security and performance of your DNS infrastructure.
DHCP Management: Men&Mice DDI offers a highly available DHCP solution that can manage and automate the management of DHCP scopes, options, and leases across multiple platforms. The platform also provides features like DHCP failover, which ensures uninterrupted service availability for your network devices.
IP Address Management: Men&Mice DDI offers a comprehensive IP address management solution that enables organizations to manage their IP address space efficiently. The platform provides automated IP address allocation, reconciliation, and auditing, which ensures that your network addresses are always up-to-date.
Important to point out is, that the solution does not replace your existing DNS or DHCP solution; it only manages it. It’s a “friendly” manager since it will allow changes to happen directly on DNS or DHCP. For example, if Windows DNS is used and an Adminstrator makes a change via mmc, Micetro (Men&Mice orchestrator) will not revert the change; it will show a discrepency between what is expected and what is actually implemented.
Looking at the benefits of such a solution:
Centralized Management: Men&Mice DDI offers a single pane of glass view of your network infrastructure, which simplifies network management and reduces the risk of errors.
Scalability: Men&Mice DDI is highly scalable and can manage networks of any size, from small businesses to large enterprises.
Automation: Men&Mice DDI provides automated DNS, DHCP, and IP address management, which reduces the time and effort required to manage network infrastructure.
There is currently no container version, but I was told it is coming soon. If you are interested in a trial, head over here
